3 Rock Chips on Windshield in 3 months

772 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Rainbrounicorn
Had this car for about 3 months and had 3 rockchips to the windshield. Not just a chip but cracking and breaking the windshield glass. Is this normal? Ive had a Honda Fit I drove for 10 years never had a single rock chip crack my glass....is this Acura skimpping on quality or is it because they have to fit the censors in the front thus making glass more fragile? Or just bad luck?

Hi. I got a very small (less than dime-sized) rockchip on my 2nd day of driving my new Integra. I was on interstate 40 in NC. I was quite bummed, but did get it fixed at SafeLite with my insurance coverage. Spot still shows, but much smaller and I don't notice it at all while driving. I passed it off as bad luck, though I was quite bummed when it first happened. Interesting, though, to wonder if the glass on the new Integra is somehow more fragile. I sure hope not, but I guess time will tell.

Otherwise now after 5 weeks, I'm loving the drive more and more every day. I'm especially enjoying the sound system.
I caught a rock on US-15 north of Creedmoor NC last month, chipped the windshield on the drivers side. Safelite repaired it (no cost with insurance). It’s still visible but doesn’t bother me.

No idea if the glass is cheaper than other cars though.
Yeah i forgot to add my friend also had a rock chip after 2 weeks of ownership he brought it home, thanks for sharing all heres to hope it doesnt happen again! They say 3rd times thr charm....
Just got another small chip, again on interstate 40. Didn’t see any trucks with stones but heard the hit. Hmm…

Just saw this in a reddit forum about cracks in Acura windshields -- "service manager they said newer models seem to get far more cracks in the windshield than older models."

Anyhow, I'm getting my 2nd crack fixed at SafeLite this Friday. We shall see! I may have to switch and start taking windy local roads across NC from now on and avoid Interstate 40. ;)

I join the chipped windshield club! 😳😢
you will get used to it. And sorry to hear :( the kits on amazon work pretty well just fix it yourself or your insurance might cover it. I didnt wanna even deal with them and fixed it myself! Barely noticeable now. Once theres like a few more imma just have my insurance company replace it !

I’ve had a chip and a crack within 3 months of owning my Integra. Frustrating! I have been a driver 30 years. Is it a design flaw?

I think its got to do with the aerodynamics of the angle that the windshield is at and also the thickness of the material which has to be thin enough to allow the sensorys to capture the traffic ahead. Its been a few months, I just been keeping my distance with the front by at least 2 to 3 cars away and stay the fuck out of trucks and SUV's IF i can help it. But yeah sorry this happened to you. I made this thread beacuse i knew it wasnt just me. My friend had his crack the first day he took it home. For me it was around a week or two since delivery but you wiill get used to it.
Update: windshields are on backorder. Could be a normal supply chain issue, or maybe a lot of Teggy’s need new windshields? 🧐
