Given that the OEM spare tire kit is long way from being available (dealerships and PRL motorsports have no ETA), I took a look at Modern Spare and found that they now have a kit available for the 23 Integra.

Now, it is way more expensive than the OEM (this one includes the tire, but still), so I wonder if its worth quality and fitment/design wise.

Has anyone purchased modernspare products before? any insights you might want to share?

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I’m probably going to get a spare soon but didn’t realize the OEM wasn’t really available yet. This is a good option.

We bought from them for our TLX before Acura sold a spare kit. I had to rig something up to mount the spare. They really do give you everything you need besides a screw to mount the tire to the car. Even extra lug nuts.

I was going to grab this as well, but it's pricey. The OEM is priced a lot cheaper. Does Acura's come with the tire and everything? Seems like this company is gouging a bit otherwise.... $500?
For me, I bought the modern spare for the TLX because Acura didn’t have a kit for it yet. With modern spare, you are paying for shipping and that ain’t cheap. I’d get whatever is cheaper. Just verify the tools are included. I’d also price a spare for the civic SI if one exists.

So, I've pulled the trigger and purchased the Modernspare kit (Complete kit, no carrying case).
Had a pending order with PRL for the past 6 months, but decided to just request my refund and go with the alternative (planning a road trip, so better to have a spare at hand).

Quick highlights:
  • Looks solid! Feels high quality.
  • Sporty design (not that it matters, it is a spare tire, but why not?)
  • Tools are great. The telescopic wrench is awesome.
  • Yeah, it is expensive. But I needed one soon.
  • Comes with tire: Continental sContact T 125/70 R18
  • Includes a small fastener/screw and plastic holder to install the tire kit inside the wheel well.
  • No instructions included, so a bit of thinking on how to properly accommodate the tire inside.

Setup inside the wheel well
This was a bit of a challenge.

First, the provided fastener is a bit too long. It hits the bottom of the wheel well. Did try to flip over the wheel (outer face up) but the screw/fastener is not long enough for that. Plus, confirmed with modernspare's support team that it should go face down.
Solution: You can add an additional Nut or washers to pull outward the screw and allow the plastic holder to have an earlier contact with the tire, allowing a tight hold without touching the bottom body wall.

Second, how to hold the tools together and avoid these from shifting around while driving.
Solution: Using the Velcro strap that it shipped with helps to resolve this.

Third, the empty space between the wheel and the flimsy cover/liner. No support, so putting anything slightly heavy will will sink the liner/cover.
Solution: Here I had to do a quick trip to Home Depot and apply some Kindergarten Arts and Crafts. Using 3 project panels and tape I created a simple solution. Provides the needed support and fits perfectly.

Hopefully this helps someone in case they decide to spend the extra cash for some piece of mind while on the road.
Cheers!
